What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a simple, patient-centered way to receive healthcare. Instead of going through insurance companies, patients have a direct relationship with their doctor — no claims, no co-pays, no deductibles, and no surprise bills. For an affordable monthly membership (often less than many monthly expenses), you get timely, attentive care whenever you need it. DPC removes the "middleman," allowing your physician to focus completely on you. This model leads to longer, more meaningful visits, better access to your doctor, and truly personalized care at an affordable price.

Are there any hidden fees?

No hidden fees here! Your membership includes all visits, communication with Dr. Heagy, and an annual screening lab set (lipid panel and comprehensive metabolic panel). The only additional costs would be for things like extra bloodwork, imaging, EKGs, or pathology services (such as from skin biopsies or pap smears). However, procedures like those are fully covered under your membership.

If you need additional labs or imaging, we offer heavily discounted rates to make them affordable. And for prescriptions, we can often fill them right in-house at a low cost, making it even more convenient for you.

How can DPC help lower my healthcare costs?

All communication with your doctor — office visits, phone calls, texts, and more — is included in your membership fee. That means no unexpected charges or “nickel-and-diming” like you might experience with traditional insurance-based care. Many DPC patients are even able to drop their expensive “comprehensive” insurance plans and switch to a more affordable high-deductible plan or health share program.

Because we see fewer patients, we can handle 60–80% of your healthcare needs directly — meaning fewer urgent care visits, fewer specialist referrals, and fewer hospitalizations. Plus, by working outside of insurance contracts, we can offer discounted pricing on lab tests, imaging, and medications — often costing less than a typical co-pay at a traditional practice.

Will I benefit from DPC membership if I don’t require frequent medical attention?

Absolutely! Proactive, preventive healthcare is key to staying healthy, even if you’re not seeing your doctor frequently. Dr. Heagy will help guide you through routine preventive care and also be there when unexpected health concerns arise — whether it's managing a new chronic condition, treating a viral illness, or even handling a minor injury like a laceration.

How will I know if Dr. Heagy is right for me?

The best way to find out is to meet Dr. Heagy in person or on a video visit! We offer a free, no-obligation visit where you can discuss your healthcare needs and get a feel for whether this is the right fit for you. We believe it’s the best way to start what we hope will be a long, healthy, and productive relationship. Please note that medical advice will not be provided during this initial "meet and greet."

What about Medicare patients?

Currently, we are not accepting new Medicare patients, but we are building a waitlist. Once we have a large enough panel, we’ll be able to welcome Medicare patients into the practice.

When we do, yes, you can still be a part of TrueCare Family Medicine! However, you will need to sign a waiver every two years stating that neither you nor your doctor will directly bill Medicare for our services. You can still submit claims to Medicare for any lab tests, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations prescribed by our office, just as you normally would.

What’s the difference between Direct Primary Care (DPC) and Concierge Medicine?

While both Direct Primary Care (DPC) and Concierge medicine focus on providing more personalized care and better access to your doctor, there are key differences. In DPC, you pay a monthly membership fee, which covers your visits and communication with your doctor, without involving insurance or additional fees. It emphasizes affordable, accessible care, and longer, more meaningful appointments. Concierge medicine, on the other hand, often involves higher membership fees and typically includes more exclusive services, like 24/7 availability or immediate access to a doctor at any time. At TrueCare, while we offer great access to care during normal business hours, please note that I am not available 24/7. I’ll always get back to you promptly during business hours for non-emergent issues, and if you ever need urgent care, we’ll guide you to the appropriate resources. My goal is to be available when you need me most — but with a balance that allows us to focus on your health long-term.
